I couldn’t let Valentine’s Day go by without posting a special vintage recipe.
My Hubbie — lucky for me – likes all kinds of goodies normally. But his current favorite treat is cookies.
His favorites have always been chocolate chip and Snickerdoodles.
Luckily, I found a vintage recipe that caught my eye – Chipperdoodles.
Yes, it sounds like a breed of dog.
In reality, it is a cross of cookie that I wonder has not gained prominence because it is SO delicious!
Chipperdoodles has all the decadence of chocolate chip cookies and Snickerdoodles – those great baked treats rolled in cinnamon sugar before baking.
Hubbie enjoyed this new recipe which was quick, a little messy, but economical. Get the kiddos to help make a batch tonight!

The recipe was in a newly acquired cookbook called “Cookbook — Favorite Recipes From Our Best Cooks.” Inside, it says that it was compiled by the women of the Montpelier Civic League. I don’t know what Montpelier Civic League is refers to; there’s no indication of state or region anywhere that I could find. It is a spiral-bound compilation and I plan to look through it for further goodies.
Let me know what you think. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Chipperdoodles
2 ¾ c. flour
2 t. cream of tartar
1 t. baking soda

¼ t. salt
1 c. butter, softened
1 ¼ c. plus 2 T. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 t. cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In medium bowl combine flour, cream of tartar, soda, salt. In large bowl cream butter with 1 ¼ c. sugar at medium speed until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs.
Reduce speed and slowly add dry ingredients. Blend well.

Fold in chocolate chips.
In small bowl combine remaining 2 T. sugar with cinnamon.
Shape dough into balls; roll in cinnamon sugar.

Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Flatten slightly with bottom of a glass.
Bake for 10 minutes or until set.
Makes approximately 3 dozen
My notes:
- Place pastry paper on cookie sheets for quick clean up. Yes, I re-use pastry paper for similar treats. Everything turns out well.
- I ran out of cinnamon sugar and completed the batch without it – they were delic as well.
Degree of Difficulty based on the following scale:
1– Easy (5 ingredients or less; little prep time)
2– Somewhat easy (10 ingredients or less; less than 1 hour of prep)
3— Not for a weeknight (between 1-2 hours of prep)
4—Challenging (you’ve got to be kidding; who thought up this recipe?)

Vintage Find of the Week

This small orange Pyrex dish caught my eye for its bright color. I’ve used it for dishing out mixed fruit and cold cereal. don’t find many Pyrex as there are, apparently, thousands of other people collecting it. But I’m headed to my local thrift shop so I may luck out with another great find. Life is always full of blessings.
