WWII African-American Stories

We don’t want to end the month without mentioning Black History Month

I had the opportunity to interview two African Americans who served in World War II.

Vaughan Whitworth served as a Montford Point Marine in World War II.

Vaughan Whitworth was a Montford Point Marine who later served in the Pacific. If you don’t know what a Montford Point Marine is, check out his story printed in my book, We Gave Our Best: American WWII Veterans Tell Their Stories.

His excerpt from that book is at my blog here.

Vaughan served his family and country well before passing away in November 2019.

Sam Hayward’s Navy story aboard the USS Yorktown is in ‘They Did It for Honor: Stories of American WWII Veterans.

Sam Hayward served in the Navy aboard the USS Yorktown when it was at battle. His story is published in my book, They Did It for Honor: Stories of American WWII Veterans.

His excerpted story is at my blog post and here.  Please check out these interesting stories about young men who did their best to serve our country at war.

Thanks to all of our veterans for their service.
